The Future Internet and Healthcare

Where the Web3 and Virtual Reality is emerging for possible applications in healthcare.

Major web companies and entrepreneurs are shaping the next generation of the Internet. They are advancing Web3, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality. Some of which still is being defined. In the past couple years, we have seen how new tools emerged and were implemented by the healthcare community. We know about the wide adoption of Telehealth using video conferencing, purchasing healthy foods using API requests, using cell phones cameras to image the body, where computer vision and deep neural network embedded GPU chips are used to provide pathology and radiological analysis, and wearables are allowing medical centers to evaluate the patient like airport command towers. It has become a new world. Now, there is an emergence of new possible applications.

1

Distributable Ledger – Future Internet

The web will know more about your precise needs based on goals, interests, and preferences. Instead of tracking you, the web3 will allow you to dictate your needs without giving up this information.

People can own their own health record. We call this a personal health record (PHR). They can allow people to share their medical information to the appropriate health practitioners. Information that scans their record is de-identifiable that is shared. Meaning today this information will be shared without identification for finding advertising products like groceries, ordering medical equipment like CPAP machines, and pricing information for pharmaceuticals. This could be wellness tourism and yoga retreats guided by your needs, or recommendations for social groups and community. Data privacy will be key.

2

Chat Rooms – Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is based on avatars. It allows a level of anonymity for social groups to discuss challenges like substance abuse, trauma, and sensitive topics about coping with medical conditions with social work. The anonymity allows people to remove the barriers of social groups. These groups can be run by social workers, psychologists, or nurses. Content can be created for educational materials during the social groups. There can be immersive videos specific as content. We can tailor the exact challenges into larger groups across the country. This can be defined from a distributable ledger described above.

3

Future Internet with Virtual Reality

Information with Web3 will communicate with Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Many people are discovering they can exercise with virtual reality. This information will transfer between devices into a distributable ledger. Information built from described social group notifications will be made available. Augmented reality can provide both immersive information combined with ways to improve your health. An analogy is a bicycle rider receiving GPS, heart rate, and goals for the ride. This can be built into augmented reality.

4

Future Internet for BioBanks and Labwork

Biobanks are being used to research new genetic information, therapies, and learning about the person in cohort studies. Labs are synonymous for your yearly physical. Both will capture data and present that information useful about you. This information can be integrated over time in the distributable ledger. It can develop longitudinal information without necessarily knowing if there is something wrong with you. Or, you have risk factors. For instance, instead of waiting for a general physical, you get an order for a test, receive the results, and if there are any issues, a medical practitioner can meet with you. There is no waiting for a physical appointment, and then another appointment. People can learn about their health, ask questions, and have their information available for review.

5

Future Internet - Rewards

Being healthy should be rewarded if people can take concrete steps to make sure their health is good. This is something employers are discovering. The ability to improve based on goals for your health record can result in points that can be redeemed by Medicaid and Medicare. These rewards can be used in Web3 for the purchase of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) or similar interests. Some of these can be exercise and fitness videos, coupons for foods at grocery stores, partnerships with sports teams for discounts on tickets, or related concepts. This is a way that a distributable health record linking with Web3 to improve Medicaid and Medicare as an incentive for health prevention.
